Made to Measure – The Fitting Process

Made to Measure Wedding Gowns and CorsetsBuying your wedding gown is probably one of the biggest single expenses you will make in the run up to your big day, so finding the perfect dress is a must. Once you make your appointment,¬†you can relax in the knowledge that our years of experience will guide you through the whole process. We can’t say there won’t be any tears but, if there are, they will be tears of happiness once you try on your finished gown and know that it is perfect for you.

The first meeting with us is to discuss what you would like, try on some gowns and talk about your ideas for your perfect dress. This is all done in a relaxed atmosphere, either over a cup of tea at our studio, or we can travel to you. Bring your mum or your friends with you: this is a special experience for them too. You might choose a dress from our couture range where you can make slight alterations to the design or change the colour or fabric, or you might opt for our bespoke service meaning you can have a dress designed just for you. There is no obligation at this stage. It simply gives you the chance to discuss your ideas and for us to meet. If you choose a dress from the couture collection we can give you a price straight away; if you choose a bespoke dress then we will cost it and get back in touch with you with a price.

We will book you in for several fitting appointments. The first is to measure you and talk through the design again to make sure you are happy with absolutely everything. The second will be a ‘toile fit’: a calico sample of your gown, so we can check for fit and style. At this stage, we will check the fit against the pattern we made especially for you and make any alterations to the pattern before we cut out the fabric. You might need fittings in between this and collection, depending on the complexity of your dress. Your final fitting will be to check the length with your shoes and make any final adjustments.

We know how excited, apprehensive and nervous our brides can be on collection: this is the chance to try on your dress, for the very first time with your shoes, veil and accessories. This will be the first time you, your best friend or your mum will have seen you in your dress, so tears often flow. There is always a tissue on hand! Once you are happy with absolutely every detail, we can carefully pack your dress away in one of our monogrammed dress bags for you to take away. Or, if you would like us to dress you, we will keep your gown in the studio and bring it with us on the day. The choice is yours.

If you’ve got any queries about how the process works, or to book a consultation, just get in touch. We’re very happy to chat and answer any questions.
